Sunday

test this *now with sprite animation*

Some pieces that I did for an application to a games studio:
A few months ago I was applying to a studio in Montreal for a designer position and they had me do a test... that took a week. Crazy but I did it and surprisingly it wasn't enough time to complete totally! There were three stages to complete: a GUI design, a character design, and a sprite animation.

It's been long enough I think that I could post some of the art I did for it (I didn't get the job if you are wondering). Some of you may remember the post I had for the Pirate some time ago. She was part of the test and I think the best piece I did for it. I have a bunch of sketches that I did for the character that are in the pile of things to be scanned. So they should appear here some time soon :)

Hope you like and thanks for checking in!

Thursday

top cat!

I have been waiting for ages to find out the release date of this movie! I was fortunate enough to have worked on it with the fantastic guys at Lizard Brain Animation

There are a few trailers available for it now and according to imdb.com the release is this fall for Mexico in 3D! Hopefully it makes it's English release soon after, it's my first feature film and I am really excited to actually see something I worked on in the theatre.

That and I have been waiting forever to put it on my demo reel!

For now here is the trailer for you to check out:

Thanks for checking out the blog! New art coming soon :)

Monday

get set!

Back when I first started at Pork & Beans the first project I worked on was called Get Set! It still ranks near the top of my favourite shows that I have worked on. I don't think anyone will have actually seen it as it was created for a US school board. You know those videos (films on reel for me) that you would watch in social studies that were intended to teach kids life lessons. Yep that's what they were.

There were quite a few sequences that I worked on either as animator or as a posing artist but I don't have copies of them. Really wish I did. Any that I do have I will be sure to post here though!

Thursday

pomade

This is a test animation that I did back in my VFS days. The assignment was for lip-sync and I chose a line from  my one of my favourite movies Oh Brother Where 'art Thou. Good ol' George Clooney at his finest:

Seeing as the focus was on lip-sync it was a strange choice using ikJoe who has a rather simplified mouth but I was so tired of using packageman for everything I decided I needed a change.
If you are looking for some rigs both are available from this great site:

Sunday

more hell

Another scene from Neighbours From Hell that I am really proud of. Getting the layering for all the characters and bg elements was a royal pain. The director really liked this scene too which made me even happier!

Friday

neighbours from hell

I got the chance to work on a fantastic show for Dreamworks which will be airing on TBS if it hasn't already started. I spent some very long nights at Bardel learning Harmony so that I could get my scenes done. Looking back on it, it was a great time.

While most of the shots that I have will be cut together and posted to my reel and site I was thinking I should post some of the less likely candidates up to show everyone. I think it is by far some of the best animation I have ever done.

Tuesday

Despite being made only 5 seconds ago I am keeping my promise to post more. This is an animation I did not too long ago for a project called Pete & Checkers. Really short but I always like when I can manage some decent fx. I get overly proud of them when they look right.

You can watch the whole episode on youtube here: Pete & Checkers
